“I have spent my entire lifetime struggling with my weight. I have followed other weight lost plans, where I would see results for a few weeks and then put the weight back on again as soon as I stopped.
Finally, I found something that really works. In January 2006 I began the 6 Weeks to Power Living at Definitions to prepare for my July 2006 wedding. My initial goal was to lose about 20-30 pounds by July. It is now March and I have already exceeded that goal and I am working towards shedding more pounds and gaining more muscle. "It was just over one year ago that I stood at the bottom of the steps on Duckworth, looking up at your front door, absolutely terrified. As a couch potato since childhood and a yo-yo dieter from the age of twelve, I felt like a complete and utter fraud as I forced myself up the steps and in the door, but I also knew that something had to change, and that I couldn't do it by myself. So I met with Mike and rhymed off all my various health issues - chronic renal failure, hypercoagulable state, acidotic, catabolic - and his response to each one was the same. 'That's trainable.' I didn't list lack of self esteem, fear for the future or a sense of drowning in my own life as health issues, but as it turns out, those are trainable too.
Eighteen months ago my nephrologist switched me to a more intense clinic because he thought dialysis might be imminent. Now he's saying it could be another fifteen years before it happens. The acidosis is gone, my blood pressure is well controlled, and my outlook on life has never been better. After decades of trying to lose weight, now I am losing it, and I don't care, because the goal is not a number on a scale. I am healthier and stronger than I have ever been in my life, and not only do I feel better in my thirties than I did in my twenties, I even feel better than I did in my teens. "If you had asked me 9 months ago if I were going to join a gym, I would have laughed in your face and told you that it was not for me. All the while, I would have secretly wanted to go... So, in late February 2005, I heard about this cool place called definitions on Duckworth Street. Some friends of mine had a tour there and it sounded so interesting. So then something dramatic happened to me.
I just got up one day and said "ok, I'm doing it". I strolled in nervous as all hell and walked right up to the counter and met the receptionist, Leah, who I can now call a friend. She gave me a tour of the building and explained to me what all the different machines were, what they were for, and what they offered. I explained to her that I couldn't believe that I was even there for a tour - I was so nervous. She smiled and said, it's ok, we're all cool here (and they definitely were). Just before leaving, a customer of theirs started to chat with me and she started to tell me all about the training and how the trainers were so amazing etc., etc.... I left feeling good. The next day, I walked in there again and signed up.
Nine months later? Here I am, still faithfully going. I can't tell you enough what this place means to me, they are like a second family. Not just the staff, but the other members as well. It's not like I imagined at all, there are no big bulky guys standing around looking all buff and perfect with me feeling ashamed to work out beside them. Instead, each time I go I find other members working their asses off to reach their goals with trainers beside them edging them on. It's great.
I have to give great thanks to all the staff for being so positive and friendly, and especially my Personal Trainer Patrick. I often joke about getting a T-Shirt that says Body By Patrick. Considering that I was 212 lbs when I started and I'm 170 lbs now (a total loss of 42 Lbs!!), I might just be getting that t-shirt sooner than I expected."

After going to the first couple of group sessions about different topics, I was very intrigued by the information being provided. So, about three months ago I decided to meet with Mike about developing better eating habits and to develop a workout/training plan.
To date, the plan has done wonders. I have lost 25lbs and four inches off of my waist line—this is the best I have felt since high school (and probably ever). The guys at Definitions are always available for questions and to provide better solutions. The knowledge and advice being offered is exceptional.
Without having the exposure to this program, I am sure I wouldn’t have changed my lifestyle.
